Em Carter Hypnotherapy

FAQs

What is hynotherapy? Hypnotherapy is the only therapy where it is possible to work with the subconscious by using the state of hypnosis. It is totally safe; no physical manipulation, surgical interventions, drugs or medication are involved.

Hypnosis is a very natural state which we all enter naturally at least twice a day. It’s an altered state of awareness and going in and out of hypnosis is part of being human. Have you ever watched a film and felt scared or really emotional? We know on a conscious level it is not real – these are actors and the music has been chosen to set a scene. But when we become engrossed in the film, we are in a hypnotic state; the conscious mind (the analytical part of our mind) is pushed aside for a while, and the subconscious, which is both more easily accessible in this state and more open to suggestion, can’t distinguish between what is real and what is imagined.

When we bypass the conscious mind during hypnosis, the subconscious is more open to suggestion and we work with it to access and identify any negative and unhelpful behaviours, memories or beliefs so we can bring about positive changes. It can take many sessions using other types of therapy without hypnosis, to find a solution to a problem, whereas hypnotherapy can get straight to the subconscious mind and can re-examine, clarify and understand specific issues much more quickly.

Where do I come for an appointment? I work from my home in Pewsey. I also offer online appointments through Zoom.

What happens during a session? The first half of each session is a chat about the issue/s you are currently experiencing. The second half is when I guide you into hypnosis and work on your issue/s with your subconscious while your mind and body relax. You hear everything I say during this part of the session.

I give you a personalized recording for you to listen to in your own time between appointments, which reinforces the work you have done with me in each session.

What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
The general feeling of being hypnotized is feeling calm, relaxed and sleepy. You will let go of any tension in the body and mind. You can hear everything I say during the session.

How many sessions will I need? Hypnotherapy works more quickly than other therapies as it works with the subconscious and can therefore get to the root of the issue faster than talking therapy. It really depends on the issue/s you come to me with as to how many sessions you will need. Everyone is different, so are their issues. You may respond quickly and need 3–6 sessions, while others may need longer.

Is it safe? Hypnotherapy is NOT the same as stage hypnosis. It is very safe. You are in control and can hear everything I say, which is always for your benefit.  You can of course open your eyes and come back to the room anytime if that’s what you want to do, but I doubt you will want to as it’s so relaxing. Also, being able to trance in and out is part of being human.

Can you help my child? Children respond to hypnotherapy really well as they go into trance much more easily and more frequently than adults do. Parents can of course attend sessions with their child if you would like to.
I have been DBS checked recently.
